Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown - Let's see the story and gameplay of the Bandai Namco title | Review

The campaign that will see us as protagonists in the role of Trigger, a new pilot who, thanks to our help, will become the new ace in the skies. The story is set during the war between the Hosean Federation and Kingdom of Erusea. The latter wants to demonstrate all the strength of its drones, programmed according to the tactical maneuvers of an old ace of previous wars.

The gameplay shows itself immediately very dynamic even if, lacking a tutorial, the first missions will be really easy to complete, as they focus on understanding how to maneuver our fighter. At the end of each mission we will receive one reward in PRM adequate to our actions. This will therefore vary according to the selected difficulty and will increase as we continue with the missions. It will also be subject to a certain number of parameters such as downing of aircraft, ground targets and so on.

These PRMs will give us the opportunity to unlock new planes, new components to improve some parameters of the same and the special weapons (2 for each aircraft), in addition to the default one that we will get for free when purchasing the fighter. At the beginning of the mission we will be able to choose the fighter that we consider most suitable to complete it, the respective special weapon (if purchased previously) and the components. Obviously, each plane will be better suited to perform one task than another and, once set, we will not be able to change it unless restarting the mission from the beginning.

If the single player turns out to be challenging enough with missions that will put our piloting skills to the test, it is in multiplayer that the challenge gets really tough, as there are gods in the countryside obvious limits of artificial intelligence. The opponents will in fact perform in maneuvers often at the limit of reality, but in any case they will be able to give us some noteworthy fights.

Of considerable importance is the "performance limitation”Set to multiplayer. It will be possible to choose between different sets (previously created by us) consisting of a fighter, a special weapon and the various components that we will use. Based on our choices, the set will have a very specific score which will allow us to join a match or not. Thanks to this ploy, yes they will avoid overly unbalanced battles in favor of players with a better set-up.

Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown - Let's analyze the technical sector of the game | Review

The use of the new Unreal Engine 4 graphics engine and trueSKY technology allows you to have a definition and a fluidity never seen before in previous titles of the saga. Optimization is also perfect for atmospheric effects. Even the audio compartment turns out to be well optimized with the various sound of the engines that faithfully reflect the originals. You will be able to have a little disturbance only in long sessions of combat, especially when we find a dozen drones in the ribs that lock us with their aiming system to hit us with missiles.

I commands respond perfectly to inputs, allowing us to quickly change targets and fire at the right moment. This high response speed will also allow us to perform more or less drastic turns, based on the movement we will perform on the lever of our pad.

Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown - Final Conclusions | Review

We have now reached the end of this review and it is time to take stock of Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown. The game faithfully reproduces what were the mechanics of its predecessors, with one very compelling storyline and breathtaking combat in the skies. The new graphics give that touch of realism that perhaps many lacked: for example, it is possible to be struck by lightning, with consequent loss of control of the vehicle.

Hear the effects of turbulence due to the air gaps that can be found in a cloud, it makes us understand right away that fighting will not be a walk in the park. Good implementation also regarding the variety of missions and the multiplayer it turns out to be well Organised. We can therefore conclude this review on Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown by saying that the developers have done a really good job, bringing to light a saga loved by many and making it even more captivating and exciting.
