The Evil Within 2 review: forward Sebastian

Without Shinji Mikami in charge, The Evil Within 2 abandons the claustrophobic atmospheres of its predecessor to take on a more freeroaming form

After having sanctioned for many the rebirth of a genre believed to be dead, that of survival horror, The Evil Within 2 returns improving the playful part of the first chapter but still leaving behind some uncertainties.

A very fascinating storyline

The Evil Within 2 it is closely linked to the events of the first chapter and is set three years later.

At the beginning of the story we will find ourselves in front of a Sebastian destroyed by the events of Beacon Menetal Hospital and that he still feels remorse for the death of his daughter Lily in a fire.

The protagonist will become aware of International, a virtual city populated by real people created by Mobius through it STEM and that it exploits Lily as a core being an incredibly stable subject.

International from a quiet American town, due to the appearance of the nucleus, it will begin to collapse and soon fall into chaos.

Taking advantage of the general chaos some psychopaths will shape International and they will distort the world to their liking.

The story is intriguing and well written right from the start, with some scenes that will remain impressed by their rawness.

A twisted and unhealthy world

The scenarios in which we will live our adventure are immediately dirty and decadent, especially as regards the interiors.

Adding to the effect of disgust and nausea will be the putrid and mangled bodies of the inhabitants of International now infected with an unknown virus.

Devote yourself to the exploration of International it is not only pleasant but also functional as only by searching the map you will find collectibles and useful materials crafting.

Tango Gamesworks he also added many plays of light and sudden changes of setting to make the atmosphere even more distressing and disturbing.

Criticized in the first chapter, the black bands have been removed to enjoy the adventure in full screen even if they can be unlocked once the game is finished.

Graphically, the title exploits it Stem Engine who does his job giving an excellent general quality even if with some imperfections with polygonal models of enemies and very well-kept bosses.

There will be some texture not very detailed although very rare.

Artificial intelligence turns out to be a little deficient with enemies that in some situations get stuck with the game scenario, especially if in a group.

PC optimization is good albeit with some uncertainty on higher configurations.

Recommended:

-Operating System: Windows 7/8.1/10 (64-bit versions)

A varied and fun gameplay

In The Evil Within 2 we would find ourselves having to take advantage of various approaches to make our way through the enemies, as going with the weapon leveled especially at the higher difficulty levels will not always be the most suitable choice.

Crafting is much more present and well done than the first chapter, in fact we should explore every corner of the map to find useful resources to craft objects or upgrade our weapons.

The cover system has also improved to induce the player to have a more stealthy and less chaotic approach.

There will be numerous side missions that will allow us to find new weapons and discover really well-made characters and stories.

The green gel will be present again which will be dropped by the enemies and bosses killed and will allow us to enhance our skills.

The enhancements of Sebastian will be divided into five different categories:

  • Health, improves health and physical stamina.
  • Athletic, improves energy and avoidance.
  • Recovery, improves health recovery.
  • Stealth, improves concealment and stealth.
  • Combat, improves the use of firearms and hand-to-hand weapons.

To strengthen ourselves we will have the chair of the first chapter available again together with our old friend  Tatiana which in this chapter will be less enigmatic and more open to giving us advice.

In the shelters there will be a coffee machine that will allow us to restore life.

The bossfights, albeit in smaller numbers, are one more exciting than the other and differ greatly both in design (always at very high levels) and in mooveset.

To better deal with the clashes we will be forced to take advantage of the level design of exquisite workmanship and all the possible means provided to us by the development team.

There will be three different levels of difficulty from the first run (Inexperienced, Survival e Nightmare) and one unlockable after beating the game (classical).

Conclusioni su The Evil Within 2

Summing up The Evil Within 2 presents itself as a worthy successor of the first chapter by improving the gameplay but bringing with it some defects to be found in artificial intelligence and in an optimization PC not the best.

The last effort of Tango Gamesworks has managed to place itself in the market as one of the best survival horror featured with fun gameplay and excellent storyline.

The Evil Within 2 is available from Friday 13 October 2017 su Xbox One e PS4.
